We will jump straight into it with news of the young Greta Thunberg, now a little background on who this young lady is, Greta Thunberg is a Swedish school girl climate activist who has been described as a role model for worldwide student activism. She is famous for having initiated the school strike for climate movement that formed in November 2018 and went on to surge globally after the COP24 conference in December of the same year.
It has come to our attention that Greta Thunberg’s mother has reported that her family have received threats and have become hate figures as a result of her daughter’s newfound fame as a climate change campaigner.
The 16-year-old shot her way into public consciousness when she skipped school in protest over the world’s inaction on global warming making her a hate figure according to her opera singer mother Malena Ernman.
Greta Thunberg’s speeches have inspired thousands of other school children to join her strike and she has spoken at the house of commons and the European Parliament, she also addressed Extinction Rebellion protesters at the Marble Arch.
Keeping it on protests, Southampton City has had a proposal by campaigners for a car free Sunday once a month to combat and curb pollution.
This scheme could see streets in Southampton City centre closed to traffic on Sundays, clean Air Southampton and Southampton Friends of the Earth have put the proposal to the city Council and it is understood that it is currently being considered by the authority bosses this confirmed by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS)
The campaign groups are asking for the initiative to start this coming September. Last May, the city was named by the World Health Organisation as being the limit for levels of fine particle pollution and with that in mind to help improve air quality in the Southampton City a non-charging clean air zone is being introduced and under those plans, taxis and buses will have to meet low emissions regulations.
We have the latest news on Lyra Mckee, its come to our knowledge that Lyra Mckee had revealed plans to propose to her partner Sara just hours before she was murdered, a friend told mourners at her funeral.
Lyra Mckee was shot dead last Thursday while she was observing rioting on that night, the friend, Stephen Lusty pointed out that she had showed him pictures of the engagement ring.
Britain’s prime minister Theresa May, the president of Ireland Michael D Higgins, Irish prime minister Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar and other politicians were in attendance at Lyra Mckee’s funeral service.
Miss Mckee’s sister Nicola Corner, told mourners “in the words of Lyra herself, we must change our own world, one piece at a time. Now let’s get to work”.
