Arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is an aesthetic surgery procedure applied to the upper arm skin to remove excess fat and tighten the wrinkled and saggy/loose skin resulting from aging or weight loss, to obtain a nice cosmetic appearance.

What is Arm Lift Aesthetics?

Over time, due to the effect of aging, excessive fluctuations in weight, decrease in subcutaneous adipose tissue and loss of skin elasticity, sagging of the skin on the back and inner parts of the upper arm extending towards the elbow may occur. Brachioplasty offers effective solutions for women and men of different age groups who have excess skin, loosening and excess fat in their upper arms.

The upper arms have a structure suitable for fat storage. In addition, it may loosen due to weight gain and may take a saggy and loose appearance due to the effects of aging. Two different methods can be used to eliminate the problems that arise in the upper arm area due to various reasons: Liposuction, which allows the arms to be thinned in a scarless way, and arm lift surgery, which not only slims the arms but also removes sagging in the arms. Which of these methods is preferred depends on the structural characteristics of the patient and the degree of the problem.

It is decided which technique to apply by examining the rate of skin sagging caused by various factors such as the decrease in subcutaneous tissues, loss of elasticity in the skin and the effects of gravity, and the thickness of the subcutaneous fat tissue. While the liposuction method may be sufficient to eliminate skin loosening due to weight gain and loss, it is possible to remove the thickened skin with a surgical procedure. In cases where the loose skin is limited to the under-arm area, the loose skin can be recovered with a limited incision. When the abundance continues towards the elbow, effective results can be obtained by applying arm lift aesthetic surgery.

Arm lift aesthetics includes surgical and non-surgical procedures applied to eliminate the deformity of the skin in the upper biceps and lower arm. Arm lift aesthetics can be performed to reduce fat tissue that occurs due to various reasons in areas such as arms, elbow circumference and armpits, which cannot be removed despite regular diet and exercise, and to eliminate sagging and loss of elasticity in the skin.

The surgical procedure applied to treat the appearance of excess skin and sagging in the arms due to various reasons such as aging, external factors and eating habits is called arm lift aesthetic surgery. During the surgery, different techniques can be used according to the needs of the patient and the problem to be eliminated. According to the technique to be applied, incisions are made in certain parts of the arm. The results obtained from arm lift aesthetic surgery, in which excess soft tissue is removed, are usually permanent. Although sagging of the arms may occur again due to reasons such as aging and serious fluctuations in weight, it is not possible for the arms to return to their appearance before surgery.

Why is Arm Lift Aesthetics Performed?

Arm lift aesthetic surgery can be applied to patients who experience dramatic weight loss after bariatric surgery or whose skin elasticity is lost with aging and a so-called bat wing appearance occurs on their arms. This appearance may cause aesthetic concerns. The patient may want to wear long-sleeved clothes and hide the appearance of their arms due to loss of self-confidence.

Although doing sports is a method that provides tightening in the muscles, it is not enough to solve problems such as elasticity and loosening of the skin. People who experience such problems may resort to arm lift aesthetic surgery to eliminate sagging in the upper arms. With arm lift surgery, both the excess sagging skin in the area can be collected and liposuction can be performed to thin the lower arm area.

Who is Arm Lift Aesthetics Suitable for?

Women and men of different age groups who have sagging problems due to many different factors and who are unhappy with the appearance of soft tissue and excess skin are suitable for arm lift aesthetics.

What are the Types of Arm Lift Aesthetics?

Arm lift aesthetics is a plastic surgery procedure planned according to the structural characteristics and needs of the patient. In this context, the techniques to be applied may also differ. Arm lift aesthetic surgery can be performed using different techniques such as mini arm lift, standard arm lift and extended arm lift.
Arm lift aesthetics is performed under general anesthesia. Mini arm lift surgery is preferred in patients with less sagging skin. An incision is made under the armpit. Liposuction is performed to thin the arm and excess skin is pulled towards the armpit.

In standard arm lift aesthetics, an incision is made from the armpit to the elbow. Since the incision is made on the inside of the arm, no scar is visible when viewed from the front or back.
The extended arm lift technique is an effective solution for people with excessive arm sagging. In this method, where the incision is made from the elbow to the side chest wall, the incision scar may be more prominent than other techniques.

Operation Process

The patient is examined before arm lift aesthetic surgery is performed. During the examination, the patient is standing and the amount of skin sagging is determined by lifting the arms at shoulder level. In addition, various examinations are performed. The results obtained are evaluated. The scope of the technique and procedure to be applied is determined individually according to the underlying cause of fat and sagging in the arms and the degree of the problem to be treated. After the excess skin is removed in accordance with the planning made, fat tissues can also be removed if deemed necessary.

Liposuction method can be applied to remove excess fat in the arm area. With this method, excess fat can be removed from the inner and outer parts of the arm and the shoulder area. However, in order to obtain effective and aesthetically satisfactory results from the liposuction method, the arm skin must be sufficiently tight. If there is looseness in the skin, laser liposuction may be considered to tighten the arm skin.

When the laxity and sagging of the arm skin is excessive, the sagging skin must be removed to provide adequate thinning and tightness. In such cases, liposuction is not sufficient and arm lift surgery is needed to remove excess arm skin.

The technique of arm lift aesthetic surgery is determined according to the sagging rate of the arm skin and the thickness of the subcutaneous fat tissue. If the patient’s skin is loose due to frequent weight gain and loss, it is likely to have excess skin blood. In this case, liposuction procedure may be beneficial. The targeted tightness in the area can be achieved by removing the skin that has become empty after liposuction.

Recovery Process

After surgery, bruising and swelling at the application site is possible. The application area can be bandaged to eliminate or reduce the risk of edema or bleeding. After arm lift surgery, the arms should be kept elevated and an arm corset should be worn for 3 to 4 weeks after surgery.

What are the Risks of Arm Lift Aesthetics?

Arm lift aesthetic surgery may involve risks such as bleeding, significant scarring, risk of anesthesia, temporary or permanent damage to the vessels or nerves.

Age Restriction

In order to undergo arm lift aesthetics, the person must be over 18 years of age and there should be no obstacle to surgery in general health. The decision on the suitability for surgery and the technique to be applied are determined individually for the patient after the evaluations made.

If the skin discharge is only under the armpit, the skin under the armpit can be removed with minimal stitches. If the skin gap continues up to the elbow, the technique extending from the elbow to the armpit can be utilized.

Arm lift aesthetics, which can be performed under sedation or general anesthesia, takes an average of 2 hours. This time may vary depending on the scope of the procedure, the technique to be used and the characteristics of the operation area.
