No Touch Laser Surgery, also known as transPRK (transepithelial PRK) and touch free laser surgery, corrects refractive errors by well controlled excimer laser based on no-touch procedure, which is the removal of the corneal epithelium and stroma in a single step without alcohol used in PRK method. Alcohol is used to easily remove the corneal epithelium by the surgeon.
What is No Touch Laser?
Visual impairments can cause individuals to experience many different difficulties in their daily lives. It can negatively affect the person’s quality of life and affect their working and social lives. Laser treatment methods, which are the most commonly used methods for eliminating eye defects, are frequently preferred due to their short treatment and recovery periods.
No Touch Laser is one of the methods used to eliminate refractive problems in the eye. As the name suggests, this method is applied without contact with the eye, and the cornea is not intervened using any cutting tools. This method, which is applied by the patient looking at a distant light source for 50 seconds, can be preferred for patients who have distance or near vision problems. If the patient is not suitable for other laser treatments, has a thin cornea or a steep corneal surface, the no touch laser procedure can be preferred.
No Touch Laser, in which the laser is applied directly to the patient’s cornea, is performed without touching the cornea in any way and without making any knife or any incision. The laser is applied continuously to the epithelial layer, which does not affect the eye number, and to the main layer of the cornea, called the stroma, which has a direct effect on the eye number.
How is No Touch Laser Performed?
The No Touch Laser method can be applied to hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism patients whose eye structure is suitable. Patients with distance and near vision problems are candidates for No Touch Laser treatment. In addition; No Touch Laser can be applied to people who have previously undergone cataract surgery, patients with a tear in their retina or those who are prone to a tear in their retina, provided that their eye structure is suitable. Especially people with thin corneas and a corneal surface that is steeper than normal can benefit from No Touch Laser treatment.
The first step of No Touch Laser application is to drop anesthetic drops into the patient’s eye and wait for the drops to take effect. With the effect of the anesthetic drop, the patient is prevented from feeling any pain or ache during the application. The application is performed by having the patient look at the light coming out of the laser device for approximately 50 seconds. The No Touch Laser method is completed by performing the procedure on both eyes in the same session.
After the No Touch Laser treatment, the patient’s eyes cannot be covered. The patient is discharged with both eyes open. During this process, the patient is given UV protective glasses to protect their eyes. During the first 36 hours, complaints such as stinging in the eyes, redness, discomfort from light and blurry vision of small text on the television may occur. In order for this process to go through comfortably, the patient should use the prescribed medications regularly.
The patient is called for a check-up on the 4th day of the treatment. Under normal conditions, work can be done on the computer on the 4th day after the treatment and driving can be done at the end of the 7th day. The patient’s vision quality improves as the healing process progresses. This process usually lasts about 1 month. Since the patient’s eye number does not increase after the No Touch Laser application, there is no need to use contact lenses or glasses.
The eye should not come into contact with water for 1 week after the No Touch Laser application. In addition, the prescribed eye drops should be used regularly for the period specified by the doctor. Eyes should be protected from UV rays as much as possible and should not be outside without sunglasses during the hours when daylight is sharp.
Also, you should not drive immediately after the surgery. In order to have a healthy and fast recovery process, you should rest for the period specified by the doctor and avoid strenuous work.
What are the advantages of No Touch Laser?
- One of the most important advantages of the No Touch Laser method is that it can be applied to patients who cannot apply other laser treatments because their cornea is thin. Eye surgery could not be performed on people with thin cornea before the No Touch Laser method. Patients who could not receive laser treatment had to continue their lives by using glasses or lenses for this reason. Thanks to the No Touch Laser method, where new and advanced technology is used, it is possible to treat people with thin cornea structures and increase the quality of life of more people.
- The patient’s eye is never touched during the No Touch Laser method. For this reason, it is a highly functional solution especially for those who have concerns about direct contact with the eye or do not like contact. Since the eye is one of the most feared and most sensitive points in the human body, No Touch Laser maximizes the comfort of patients.
- After other laser treatment procedures, there is a risk of astigmatism due to the cut piece. The No Touch Laser method reduces the risk of astigmatism.
- There is less risk of complications after the No Touch Laser method compared to other laser treatment applications. Since no cutting is done in the corneal tissue, ectasia, or organ enlargement, which can occur after general treatments, is not seen. Ectasia is a condition that occurs in the area where the sample is taken. Since no incision is made in the No Touch Laser method, ectasia does not occur.
- With the No Touch Laser method, it is possible to treat and eliminate myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia problems at the same time.
- Since no incision is made in the eye, No Touch Laser stands out as a highly reliable procedure.
- Another advantage of the No Touch Laser method is that the operation time is extremely short. The application is completed in an average of 30 to 50 seconds.
- The problem of dry eyes, which can occur after other laser treatment methods, is seen very briefly and temporarily after the No Touch Laser method.
- In addition, the No Touch Laser method does not cause any increase in intraocular pressure. Since it eliminates the risk of retinal tear, it can be used safely especially in patients with high myopia problems.
- The No Touch Laser method helps preserve the general condition of the cornea.
- Thanks to this method, the risk of the eye’s resistance to impacts decreasing is eliminated.
- Being able to perform the procedure on both eyes on the same day and in the same session saves time for patients.
- Patients start seeing as soon as they get up from the bed after No Touch Laser treatment.
- Since the laser device used in No Touch Laser treatment is equipped with high technology, there is no problem even if the patient moves their eye during the application. Thanks to its technological equipment, the device follows the patient’s eye movements and stops the procedure if the eye is moved. Once the eye is fixed, the procedure continues where it left off.
- Since No Touch Laser treatment is a permanent procedure, a single treatment is sufficient. However, if there is a situation such as the progression of the numbers and the patient’s corneal tissue is suitable, laser treatment can be applied a second time.
No Touch Laser Prices
