Gastric bypass (Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass)

Gastric Bypass, also known as Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, is one of the most preferred bariatric surgical (a type of weight-loss surgery) procedures.

With this surgical method, a small hole opened on the stomach is anastomosed to a hole opened on the small intestine. Thus, swallowed food directly passes from the gastric hole to the small intestine.

Gastric bypass is typically performed only after the patient had tried to lose weight with diet and exercise.
