Some wrinkles on the eyelids resulting from sleeplessness, fatigue, and aging may show the person older than the real age and they may be corrected by some surgical procedures. The excessive skin in the upper eyelid and sagging may cause vision problems. With Eyelid Lift Surgery, these problems are removed and corrected. After the operation, bruises on the operation area may continue for about 5-7 days as like other surgical procedures. The traces of surgery will disappear completely after about 1 month and complete recovery will be in about 6 months.

What is Eyelid Aesthetics?

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid aesthetics involves the removal of sagging skin and excess muscle tissue around the eyes, and tightening the remaining tissues on the upper and lower eyelids. In cases where there is a need to repair sagging eyelids, excess skin, muscle, and fat may be removed.

Eyelid aesthetics can be performed through surgical and non-surgical procedures. While it is generally applied for cosmetic purposes, it can become a necessity for health reasons when sagging upper eyelids obstruct vision.

The skin, which normally has an elastic structure, gradually loses its elasticity with aging. The loss of elasticity in the face can lead to the accumulation of excess skin on the eyelids, resulting in the first signs of aging appearing around the eyes. Aging in the eyelids can create a tired, dull, and aged appearance.

On the other hand, eyelid aesthetics does not address dark circles under the eyes, crow’s feet, and other wrinkles. To address such issues, eyelid aesthetics can be combined with procedures such as forehead lift, laser skin rejuvenation, or filler injections.

Why is Eyelid Aesthetics Performed?

Aging, genetic factors, and the effects of gravity can cause changes in the upper and lower eyelids. This may include sagging eyelids, weakening of the muscles supporting the eyelids, and accumulation of excess fat above and below the eyelids. Brow sagging, bags under the eyes, and drooping of the upper eyelids may occur. Excess skin and muscle, as well as the protrusion of fat tissue, can lead to bags forming under the eyes, creating a tired, aged, and sleepy appearance. Additionally, sagging skin around the eyes can reduce peripheral vision, especially in the upper and outer areas.

In some individuals, all these changes may be visible at once, while in others, only excess skin or bagging may occur. If the excess skin significantly affects vision, it can negatively impact the quality of life. Eyelid aesthetics is performed to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyelids, improve the overall cosmetic appearance of the face, and achieve a more vibrant and youthful look.

Who is Suitable for Eyelid Aesthetics?

Eyelid aesthetics is generally performed on individuals aged 35 and older, but in some cases, certain problems may arise at an earlier age due to genetic predisposition. As a result, eyelid aesthetics may be performed at an earlier age. The main situations in which eyelid aesthetics is applied include:

– Decreased vision quality due to sagging upper eyelids
– Loss of definition in the upper eyelid crease due to sagging
– Increased puffiness of the upper eyelid compared to normal
– Inability to apply eye makeup due to sagging upper eyelids
– Constant need to lift the forehead due to decreased vision quality

Types of Eyelid Aesthetics

Eyelid aesthetics can be performed using both surgical and non-surgical methods. Non-surgical eyelid aesthetics can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation, depending on the surgeon’s decision after evaluating the patient individually. While non-surgical eyelid aesthetics can be applied to anyone who medically requires it, the suitability for the procedure is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Non-surgical eyelid aesthetics can be applied to anyone with excess skin on the eyelids, but it may be more effective in individuals with thin skin structure.

Operation Process

In the non-surgical eyelid aesthetics procedure, no incisions are made on the eyelids, and it leaves no scars. The procedure uses plasma energy treatment, where the epidermis layer of the skin is vaporized, causing the skin to contract, and excess skin is removed from the area without surgery.

Upper Eyelid Aesthetics Surgery Process

In upper eyelid aesthetics or eyelid drooping surgery, excess skin and muscle tissue in the application area are cut and removed. The incision is made along the eyelid crease to prevent the surgical scar from being visible. In some cases, this procedure may be combined with forehead lift and brow lift procedures for optimal results.

Lower Eyelid Aesthetics Surgery Process

Due to the effects of aging and gravity, fat pads located above the cheekbones may shift downward, leading to sinking under the lower eyelid and deepening of laugh lines at the mouth corners. Before performing lower eyelid aesthetics, if the fat pads are repositioned endoscopically, some patients may not need additional procedures. However, if bagging and sagging persist after this procedure, an incision is made just below the eyelashes. The skin is lifted, and after spreading the fat pads to the eye socket, excess skin and muscle are cut and removed. After this process, the procedure is completed. If there is still under-eye depression after lower eyelid aesthetics surgery, it may be necessary to perform under-eye injection after the healing process is completed.

Recovery Process

In the first two days after eyelid aesthetics surgery, swelling may occur around the upper and lower eyelids and their surroundings. Gentle ice compresses can be applied to the application area after surgery to reduce swelling and bruising. To ensure a healthy and fast recovery, antibiotics, pain relievers, and anti-swelling medications prescribed by the doctor should be used regularly. Eye drops may be used to eliminate the risk of dry eyes, alleviating the sensation of burning and dryness in the eyes.

During the first week after the operation, the patient should sleep with their head elevated. Strenuous activities and heavy exercises that could cause excessive fatigue should be avoided for three weeks. Swelling and bruising on the eyelids generally begin to decrease from the 5th day after the surgery, and usually, by the 14th to 16th days, they have almost completely disappeared. In the first few weeks after the operation, sensitivity to wind and sunlight may increase. Therefore, wearing sunglasses outdoors is necessary.

What Are the Risks?

Eyelid aesthetics is a surgical procedure that comes with some risks. One risk is the inability to close the eyes and the formation of wounds on the eye surface if too much skin is removed. If excessive skin is removed from the lower eyelid, it may turn outward. Additionally, careful attention should be paid to bleeding because bleeding behind the eye can pose a risk of vision loss. When eyelid aesthetics surgery is performed by experienced and specialized surgeons, these risks can be minimized.

Age Limitation

There is no age limit for eyelid aesthetics because some individuals may have excess skin on the eyelids due to genetic factors even in their 20s. Therefore, the decision for surgery is made after an evaluation specific to the patient.

Eyelid Aesthetics Prices

Eyelid aesthetics prices can vary depending on the scope of the procedure, the technique applied, the expertise of the performing doctor, the price policy of the clinic where the surgery is performed, and many other different factors. Therefore, eyelid aesthetics prices can be clearly determined after the examination.
